Message from Metropolitan Police, Borough Commander and Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Safety and Cohesion
We are fully aware that crime and the fear of crime is still a major concern for many of you, despite the fact that year on year overall crime is being reduced. There are a variety of reasons for this imbalance. The media focus on crime, both in the news and entertainment and for a Borough of our size, some crime is almost inevitable. However, statistics show that the chances of actually being a victim are relatively small. With an increase in Neighbourhood Enforcement Officers, more police on public transport and a Safer Neighbourhood Team in every local community, tackling and reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, we are continuing to improve the quality of life for those who live, work and visit this Borough.
Understandably, however, people want to know what the authorities are doing to make Croydon safer. The Safer Croydon Partnership is a public service and as such is accountable for how your money is being spent.
Naturally we want to ensure that what we are doing is in line with what you expect. These pioneering public Question Time meetings will allow us to outline our achievements, our forthcoming plans and more importantly provide you with an opportunity to raise any crime concerns that you may have with those of us who are directly responsible for policing and security in this Borough. We both look forward to meeting you and hearing your views.
Cllr Steve O'Connell and Mark Gore
