URGENT: 60 seconds of your time… Importance: High
….could change lives now What? We need 20,000 people to sign our petition for older people to receive a social pension in more developing countries. The petition closes on 26 September.  Why bother? Here are three good reasons: 1.      It works 45% of people who have received Chile’s social pension have been moved out of poverty all together. South Africa’s pension has reduced the scale of older people’s poverty by 94%.2.      It’s an investment In parts of Africa, over 60% of AIDS orphans are looked after by their grandparents. A pension means more of these children can afford to go to school. This is vital for future generations to break the cycle of poverty.3.      It’s affordable Botswana, Lesotho and Nepal have implemented pension schemes for 2% of national income or less. How to take action: Our petition calls on the UK Government to help fund pension schemes through its overseas aid policy. We’re delivering it to Downing Street at the end of the month.
