2006/07Croydon Xpress has successfully held two Kids Xpression Zone events this year to follow on from the successful KXZ1 in 2005! The FREE FUN family events are planned to enable children and young people with their parents/carers to actively get involved in having a say about issues affecting their lives and to enjoy FUN activities for the whole family. Croydon Xpress have consulted with 300 families during the Kids Xpressions Zones 1, 2, 3. The outcomes of the consultation undertaken by the Xpress team are fed through to the decision makers in Croydon to influence the decision making process around kids services/activities in Croydon. Xpress has engaged with many other smaller projects this year exploring issues around safety. This work will be picked up again now the schools have gone back for the new term….we are currently working with Fairchildes school council and are going to roll out its work on issues of safety including ‘gang’ work in other junior schools in the borough at their request! The Xpress project has raised its profile in Croydon amongst council officers, children and young peoples networks and families themselves though their very successful Kids Xpression Zone model! We have focused our energies and attention to actively involve families that are the‘hardest to reach’ in Croydon including children and young people with complex special needs.
