Everyone welcomes the long awaited publication of the green paper ‘ A Framework for Fairness’ but still most remain fearful that the Government will miss the opportunity to take away some of the biggest barriers to equality facing older and disabled people and are not sure the measures contained here are going to deliver an equal levying of rights for all marginalised groups. Disabled people will feel particulalry let dowen by the green paper as it doesn’t really set out the amendments they would need to fight against the discrimination they face. Whilst the paper does not even promise to deliver age legislation similar to that which tackles sexism, racism and disablism. For older people it is still a waiting to game to be put on the same level playing field as others. The paper needs to be more clear in ow it will strengthen the responsibilities of public authorities in promoting equality. While for disabled people the exemptions currently applied to air and sea transport providers must be lifted.

CVA is looking to help put forward the views of those marginalised groups in Croydon to ensure that the final Bill makes the most of what is a unique opportunity to create the legal framework that maximises equality for all.
