Bring the river back to the park

It is one of the ideas that gets me excited!, I would love to see the river bought back to the surface in the park. The river is being un-culverted in the Barratt development and it would be great if it could continue through to the park. I know that there are currently flow tests to check the feasibility of bringing the river back, and I think the study should be finished shortly - would be interesting to find out what kind of river we could get in the park. Personally, I don’t want a river with very steep banks, I would prefer it to be more like the river at Beddington where kids and dogs can simply walk right into the river from the park, this will probably involve some landscaping, but shouldn’t be too hard! I know that a few people are keen to see the boating lake return to the park - I’m not so keen on this. I think that the problems that caused the lake to dry up will still be there, so it wouldn’t be feasible, but also as a dog walker, it would stop me from walking in the park as my dogs have a tendency to swim and not come back until they are tired! so the lake would stop a large majority of the users from coming to the park. Also if the lake were to return, it would make the park feel considerably smaller. A nice idea would be to landscape the existing rose garden and add an ornamental pond in there, that way, a fence can be erected around the area to keep dogs out!! This would encourage wildlife into the park and return standing water to the park.
