Muli-faith activity in Croydon is very patchy. How should we do this better?
Since working in Croydon I have experienced some excellent co-working across faiths but these examples are few and far between. I would like to see more of this and want to know if there is more out there that I don't know about.
Virtually all faiths have some element involving love for one's fellows ... we need to build on this and stop being inward-looking, because it relates to ALL one's fellows, not just ones with the right religious or denominational badge ... for those familiar with the story of the Godd Samaritan, read it again in the knowledge that the Samaritans were despised, religious outcasts ... and insert Terrorist/Junkie/thug/whatever for Samaritan ... the story suddenly begins to have some "bite".
If that was what Jesus taught, why haven't we learned it??

Apparently, there are over 250 worshipping groups in Croydon! there seems to be emerging 'interfaith' issues especially around the younger generation....young people reverting to islam and christianity? It is important in Croydon with such a multi race and faith society that interfaith relations is high up on the agenda and young people are involved in the discussions around 'community cohesion' and what it means to them.
Faiths Together and Xpress are planning an inter-faith event for young people in mid September!
Watch this space for publicity highlighting the event over the next few months!
