I am working for the Primary Care Trust (PCT) - the local health planning organisation - until October 2008. I am helping to develop a strategy for Patient and Public Involvement (PPI). I am an ex-mental health service user, Leeds Utd supporter and father of two kids, 8 and 4, who have just won a Nintendo Wii in a school raffle. My evenings are pretty busy right now. When I have any spare time I like to write poetry.

Bownas, John

John Bownas:

I've been working for Croydon Council in various roles since 1996. My first role was returning empty private homes to use - a mamoth task when we first started, and a task that still goes on as the supply of new homes struggles to keep up with demand.

My next job was managing the 'Smarter Croydon' project - 3.2million pounds worth of investment in the local environment, which included the provision of Community Grants to a wide range of resident groups.

Collins, Cath

Helllo, I am Cath Collins and I have worked at Croydon Voluntary Action since 2004. Prior to that I was very active on the mental health user/survivor movement campaigning on mental health issues in South London. All of my work in Croydon involves working in adult health and social care. I lead on the Croydon Mental Health Forum and also co-work in the Croydon Health and Care Forum. Both Forums are ways that local people can have a say and work to improve health and social care services in Croydon. My particular aresa of interest are mental health and user and carer involvement.

Crooks, Andrew

Primarily engaged with older people in community involvement I co-ordinate activities for Croydon Older People's Network. I also devote a certain amount of time to iddues affecting disabled people both young and old. As a disabled person myself I tackle the issuess affecting disabled people from a social model perspective - that is where the barriers thrown up by society at large are what prevents disabled people from fullfilling an active role in the community. I take this same approach in my work with older where older people's rights are that bit behind everyone else's.
